Model AAA
1930 Ford Model A
The Model AAA gets it's name by combining a Ford Model A and Tesla Model 3! The Ford Model A is one of the most iconic hot rod platforms in history. We wanted to apply the spirit of classic hot rodding to today's EV tech. Much like the original hot rodders, we're taking advantage of the cheap and plentiful power from production vehicles and transplanting it into a classic frame.
Our Model AAA marries a box tube frame and fiberglass Model A body with a Tesla Model 3/Y large drive unit. The 18.4kWh battery pack comes from a Chevy Volt. Even after cutting the pack into 3 separate modules for mounting, we're still able to use a custom controller to interface with the factory BMS and contactors.
The Model AAA front end is all traditional hot rod Ford, with transverse leaf springs and Vega steering. The rear end is all Tesla with the exception of using coil overs instead of the factory struts. We have disc brakes in all 4 corners and even managed to use the Tesla parking brake!
While we don't know the final weight, I expect the power to weight ratio to be a lot of fun. We're currently doing body work and getting the glass installed. The interior is still barebones, but it drives!
